Terrible, my commute is mostly 80% stop and go and go traffic and 20% highway. 18MPG or 13.2L|100km

Good lord that is terrible. I get 16 in my M3 with a gas guzzling V-8. I looked at leasing an ST this winter and the mileage didn’t seem too bad. Clearly that window sticker lies or you have a lead foot.

Come at me bro, I've be telling that to Jalopnik for 30 months and the FoST Jihad keeps telling me I should be doing 45MPG. I am not. Not matter if I put octane 87 or 94, I'm always doing the same lousy MPG

If you want to improve on that, make a habit of driving behind large trucks (without following too closely).
I guarantee you’ll see at least a 20% mileage improvement... at least for the highway portion.
For the city portion, it will be less most likely.

for the deal I got, yes. I paid mid-range Impreza money for that ST3 plus 0% financing. At full MSRP ? Fuck Nopes

Looks like it’s not getting any better, if you drive a turbo car like a normal car, you'll get lousy MPG. Who buys a Focus ST for HyperMiling ?

Not surprised. My mom’s 2.0L Ecoboost Escape doesn’t come close to the mpg rating. 22/30 my ass - more like 18/24, maybe 25. Hauls ass for a compact SUV though. Boost goes in, dollars go out. You can’t explain that.

I rarely go above 20MPH on my commute, I only drive it to the train station and park it.

Back in 2013, no, but I’m looking forward for the new Civic S1 sedan. GTI is another one I would like, but it 0

A girl I work with replaced her V6 Mazda Tribute (old ass Duratec) with an Ecoboost-ed Escape. She's getting worse MPG, go figure.

I get mid-20s in mine. Last I checked, I was averaging 26.5 in spite of my commute being awful for gas mileage. It really shines on a long highway drive, yielding better than rated. My peak was 20% better than the highway rating, in fact. In the winter it drops to ~22mpg and in the summer it’ll do 27-28mpg.
But you can easily drop that into the teens if you are doing a lot of stop-and-go (it’s terrible with that), driving on a cold engine in the cold on winter blend (it hates that), not following the shift points, driving spirited all the time (getting into the boost sucks a lot more fuel), etc.
I’m not a grandma driver (a few spirited starts or so per commute), so it could definitely be better, but no complaints here.

I’m not even sure the Focus SFE (1L, turbo) will do that good. It should still be getting a lot better than you mention, unless you’re perpetually in stop-and-go traffic taking off fast and braking hard. Can you keep your eco leaves all green? Have you ever got the trophies?

Truth. So you eco when you want fuel economy and you boost when you want to go fast...

Does it even warm up? I found that this just killed fuel economy in mine. My car gets like 95% cold starts, but when I go for a longer drive where it actually warms up, fuel economy increases.

Interesting. We’ll see what happens with the M3 once it is off winter mix. However, I don’t know how big a difference that will make since I only run 93 in it.

My commute is 20 minutes back and forth, and I’m always in a hurry. Point is, my 2.no VW Golf was threated the same way but was returning twice the MPG. My other car, a F30 328xdrive with the 8AT is also much better with the same commute, around 23 MPG

I get mid-upper 20's in mixed driving, easily 32 highway.
Also- protip the bumpers for your hood can be adjusted to decrease the hood gap.

I don’t think your ST is much to blame here, also to say people epect you to get 45mpg is silly (30 mpg highway is realistic). Maybe you should just accept that modern turbo engines are capable of excellent mileage but that the combination of your stop/go commute and driving style don’t allow you to achieve those numbers.

Just for shits see if dropping to 70 helps. I noticed above 70 it drops off.
That’s Shame though, mpg was part of my draw to the car.
Also hope the hood trick works. Seems like every FoST has it set to crazy gap, this helped some for me.

Honestly I was expecting around 11.5L/100km, 13+ is a bit disappointing.
For the same commute, I do 9.8 with the F30 328xdrive

The ST is set up to encourage you to behave badly. I doubt I’d do better even though it’s certainly possible to do so. The F30 on the other hand will be set up more for economy and the witchcraft 8AT definitely helps with that. I’m sure if you really try you can achieve that 11.5l/100, but that’s no fun and with gas being cheap I’d just throw 87 in it and not bother hypermiling.
